Do you choose Online or Offline Tuition lessons?

    Online vs Offline Lessons

The predominant modes of tuition in Singapore are individual (1 to 1) or group (1 to many) face to face tuition. It is the general belief that parents prefer face to face tuition as there is more interaction between the tutor and child/children. The teacher can also check on their work easily, which is true to a certain extent.

In this time and age, children are becoming more comfortable with online learning. Both parents and children are used to consuming content and interacting on their devices, and sometimes, communicate with their friends online more than family members. So why not lessons online? The COVID-19 circuit-breaker has made it compulsory for everyone to stay indoors. Over the weeks, parents and students have acclimatised to working and learning from home. Learning does not have to stop at home, and online learning certainly does not have to stop when things revert to normalcy.

At Learning Wings, we offer both Online and Offline tuition. Let us know which you prefer. Offline (Home) Tuition can only resume after the CB has been lifted and schools return to normal.

Please let us know which mode of tuition you prefer, and we will do our best to give your child the best experience he/she can get from learning.

    Which is right for me?

      Online Tuition

      • Greater Convenience. Lessons can be conducted from anywhere, as long as there is a stable internet connection.
      • Flexibility. The minimum lessons are also shorter at 1 hour as teachers need not travel to your home.
      • Saves time. Your child need not travel to the tuition centre and you need not wait around for the lesson to end.
      • More affordable rates at $5-10/hour cheaper than offline tuition.
      • Engaging. Tech-savvy tutors are able to use online games and videos to grab the attention of your child’s learning.
      • Monitoring and safety. Parents can keep track of what is being taught and not worry about your child’s journey travelling to and from tuition centres.

      Home Tuition (Offline Tuition)

      • Person-to-person interaction. The tutor is physically in your home and able to interact with your child and you personally.
      • More in-depth monitoring of your child’s work. The tutor is able to physically flip pages and thoroughly check and guide your child’s work.
      • More in-depth communication and correction. The tutor is able to closely monitor your child’s writing, pace and facial expression and hand hold his or her learning. Able to give on-the-spot feedback and corrective measures.
      • Costs slightly more than online tuition lessons.
      • Monitoring and safety. Parents can keep track of what is being taught and not worry about your child’s journey travelling to and from tuition centres.

What are the groups of tutors and what their differences?

There are 3 broad groups of tutors, which are segmented according to the market rates charged by the tutor:

    1. Undergraduates/Part-Time – These tutors tutor part time and have not attained a degree or diploma yet. These tutors often charge the least, but may have fewer available time slots and may not be able to commit for extended periods of time.

    2. Graduates/Full Time Tutors – These Tutors have graduated and are providing tuition full time as their occupation, either as private tutors or at other learning centres. They have more years of experience in teaching, more in-tuned with student’s learning style because of their experience, but their rates and qualifications of each full-time tutor may differ greatly from tutor to tutor. Relief teachers in schools or teachers teaching in private schools who are not NIE/MOE trained fall into this category.

    3. MOE-Trained/Current School Teachers – These are tutors who have been trained in NIE/MOE/TTC and are very familiar with the current school syllabus. They are still teaching OR have taught in MOE or international schools. They will tend to command higher rates but have the most amount of resources and are familiar with the latest syllabus, pedagogy and marking schemes by SEAB.

Please note that we do not control the rates for each tutor. Each tutor states their own rates based on their own qualifications, experience and the accessibility of the tutoring location. We will however endeavour to send you the best fit according to your tutor request and budget.

How can I verify the qualifications of the tutor?

We require the tutors to submit either the soft copy of their certificates on our platform. Additionally, they will also bring the hard copies of their certifications for your verification on the first lesson. We cannot send their personal details and certificates due to the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). Please do not hesitate to contact us should you spot any discrepancies and we will take the necessary actions to right the wrong through consultant with you, the parent. While we do our best to ensure accurate information is presented to us, we cannot be responsible for any false information given to us by tutors.

Can I change the Tutor and are there charges for the request?

Yes you can request for a change in tutor. We understand that the first tutor may not fit your child’s learning. There is no charge for the request. Please email or whatsapp us for this request and we will endeavour to find a more suitable tutor for you. You need only pay for the lessons taught. At the minimum, it is for 1 lesson, there is no pro-ration of lessons.
The commission of 2 weeks will still have to be paid if this happens at the beginning of the assignment.

What are the charges in finding a Tutor?

You do not have to pay anything. You enjoy a free tuition matching service. We will take a commission of two weeks (or the equivalent number of lessons in 2 weeks) of tuition fees from the tutors for securing them with a suitable tuition assignment.

To illustrate, if the fees are $300 per month, we will collect $150 directly from the parents after the end of the second week. If there is a change in date, the commission will still have to be paid after the second week of lessons. Please pay the remaining $150 directly to the tutor. This is only for the first month. Subsequently, the tuition fees are paid directly to the tutors, by weekly or monthly, depending on your agreement with our tutor.

Once the assignment is confirmed, an invoice with our payment details will be sent to you. Payment for lessons only needs to be made after the specified number of lessons on the invoice has been conducted. Payment can be made via PayNow, Internet Banking Transfer or ATM transfer. After which, do email us the screenshot or receipt as proof of payment.
